Breast cancer

Keywords:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Finland.

The number one symptom is a lump in the breast, but often breast cancer is diagnosed by screening mammography or mammography performed for some other reason. The exact diagnosis requires that a pathologist analyses a sample of the tumour tissue.

The prognosis of breast cancer is continuously improving as the diagnosis is made earlier and as treatment improves.

Breast cancer may be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, targeted drugs, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. The treatment plan is always individualized for each patient.

Treatment pathway

The treatment paths describe how the treatment of groups of cancer patients progresses.
