We treat adult patients suffering from cancer in our ward (lung-, gynecological- and hematological cancers excluded. These cancers are treated in their own specialties). Our most common forms of treatment are drug therapy (e.g. cytostats), radiation therapy and combination of these treatments. Our treatment can be curative, hindering the progress of disease or alleviating the symptoms of the disease.
We carry out radioiodine treatments for patients with thyroid carcinoma. We are also responsible for the follow-up treatment of patients' stem cell transplants carried out in the hematology ward. In addition, there are patients in the ward, e.g. because of infections, for examinations, for measures to relieve symptoms caused by cancer or treatments (e.g. pain management). The average length of the treatment period is about four days.
Usually patients come to our ward with a doctor's referral through the oncologic outpatient clinic. We also operate as an emergency department for cancer patients. We admit patients:
- from the outpatient ward of oncology
- from the joint emergency
- transferred from another ward or treatment centre.
We are a part of the Tyks Operational Division of Surgery and Cancer Diseases.
