The European Union defines rare diseases as diseases which affect no more than 5 persons per 10,000 people. It has been estimated that about 300,000 Finns have some rare form of disease, impairment, syndrome or malformation.

An individual treatment plan is tailored for each patient. The outcome of the treatment plan depends on the type of cancer and how far it has spread, the patient's general condition, age and concomitant illnesses. Thus, patients with the same cancer may have different treatment plans.
