Sarcoma is a general term for connective tissue cancers. The sarcomas are a group of different and rare tumours. They have names that often refer to the tissue from which the tumour has originated.

Thyroid cancer is usually diagnosed from a cytological (cell) sample taken with a needle from a nodule that the patients has found in the neck.

Cancer in the kidney (renal cancer, hypernephroma) causes blood to spill into in the urine which may be a first symptom. The cancer is visualized in imaging studies of the abdomen.

There is a multitude of types of lymphoma, but lymphomas are generally divided into two main types: non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Cancer of the pancreas may not give any or only very mild symptoms initially. That is why pancreas cancer is often advanced at the time it is diagnosed, since symptoms emerge only when the tumour has grown to a sufficient size.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Finland.

The intestinal cancers include cancer of the colon and cancer of the rectum. These cancers have their origin in the glands of the inner surface of the intestine. They are the third most common cancers in Finland.

The three most common forms of skin cancer are basal cell cancers (basaliomas), squamous cell cancers and melanomas.

The usual symptom of testicular cancer is a nodule found by the patient in either of the testicles. Testicular cancer is divided into two types: seminomas and non-seminomas.

Head and neck cancer refers to malignant tumours of the head and neck region excluding the eyes, brain and thyroid.
