Patients are admitted at all hours, especially during evening and night-time. Our objective is quick diagnostics and treatment according to the diagnosis. Our patients arrive from the emergency room, Tyks intensive care unit and other wards of Tyks. The average period of treatment is 3 days. Some patients only require short-term treatment and monitoring, and some patients are transferred after stabilising to other internal medicine wards, regional hospitals and health centres. Our aim is on quick diagnostics and treatment. We co-operate in an interprofessional environment with experts from various specialties, doctors and representatives of nursing (e.g. foot, diabetes and drug abuse nurse, physio and occupational therapist) and social workers in the diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of our patients. There is a 3 bed intensive monitoring and care unit within two rooms of our ward. The intensive rooms are staffed with separate nurse(s), which enables the more demanding monitoring and treatment of breathing, consciousness and fluid balance. Accordingly, e.g. mechanical ventilation, cardioversion, thrombolytic therapy and other complex medical treatments or treatments that require intense monitoring are carried out in the intensive rooms.
