The patients of the Stroke unit are referred to us from Emergency services. Each patient requires an individually tailored management plan, examinations and treatment. We also guide and instruct the patient’s family. The Stroke unit team includes physicians specialized in disturbances of brain blood circulation, a department head nurse, assistant head nurse of the department ja several nurses. The multiprofessional management team includes also a department secretary, a physiotherapist, speech therapist, ergotherapist and social worker. The physician in charge is the senior ward specialist. Our ward is a part of the Tyks Neurocenter. Arrival Main entrance to the T-hospital. Here is a link to precise instructions for how to arrive at the T-hospital. Visits Monday–Sunday 12.30–2.00 pm and 5.00–6.30 pm. A maximum of two visitors are allowed at the same time. Flowers are not allowed in the Stroke unit. Please check with the staff about bringing other presents to patients. It is our wish that each patient has only one contact person who conveys messages and information from and to the unit. Telephone inquiries The telephone number to the unit is 02 313 1712. You may inquire about a ward patient and whom you are concerned about in the morning before 7 am, daytime between 10 am and 8 pm and again in the evening after 9.30 pm. Each patient has a named nurse on call who is best qualified to inform about the patient’s condition, treatment and examinations. It is our wish that the patient’s family names only one person to act as the contact person between the patient and the family. Client fees A daily fee is charged for treatment and care at the Stroke unit. Facilities The Stroke unit is located in the T-hospital. There are 10 beds in patient rooms accommodating 1–3 patients each. There are two nurse stations with visual contact to the patient rooms. There are two isolation rooms. Each room has toilet and shower facilities, a television set and a telephone at the disposal of the patients. Considerate use of proprietary telephones is allowed. For students Nursing students may complete their advanced training studies at the Stroke unit. Medical students may do an internship in neurology at the Stroke unit. Teaching and guidance The Stroke unit provides the possibility for nursing students to learn neurological nursing and patient monitoring. During the training period nursing students can get to know the work done at the neurology and neurosurgical patient wards and at the neurology open care department. Among the duties of the physician in training are participation in the doctor’s rounds in the morning, composing referrals and consultation requests, examining patients and participating in certain procedures.
