We examine and treat diseases of the larynx and the voice and swallowing disorders caused by the diseases. Our most essential patient group is adults with voice disorders. We also examine children's voice disorders, but special problems of children's speech and language development belong to the paediatric neurology unit.
Patients are admitted by a doctor's referral, which determines our assessment of the urgency of treatment. The outpatient ward is based on scheduled appointments during office hours.
It is a good idea to reserve 1-2 hours for the first visit to the phoniatric outpatient ward. There is no need to prepare specifically for examinations at the outpatient clinic – you are allowed to eat and take medicines normally on the day of the examination.
Most common diseases of the larynx and acute voice disorders are treated in all ear, nose and throat units. Especially in the case of prolonged or otherwise problematic situations the special competence of phoniatric outpatient ward doctors and speech therapists might be required.
There is high-quality stroboscopy equipment at the Tyks phoniatric ward, which enables accurate diagnostics. The phoniatric outpatient clinic also plans the necessary phonosurgical procedures and performs post-operative follow-up.
