The gynaecological inpatient ward treats patients who require specialized gynaecological care. We treat patients with conditions in the field of general gynaecology and in the field of gynaecological cancers. Most of our patients attend for elective surgery or some other treatment and examinations. In addition, much of our activities relate to acute gynaecological and obstetric emergency situations. A large proportion of operations are day-surgical. Patients attending for day-surgical procedures and patients coming from home go straight to the 4th floor of the Lighthouse hospital, to the day surgical unit which operates in connection with the surgical department. Our department operates a gynaecological emergency services unit 24/7. A referral is required, unless otherwise agreed with patients who have an ongoing care relationship with the department. We treat acute pregnancy-related problems up until pregnancy week 20 at the emergency unit. Pregnancy-related problems later in pregnancy are managed by the pregnancy emergency services. Client fees The fee depends on the type of visit: you will be charged a daily inpatient fee, a clinic fee, a day surgical fee or a continuing treatment fee. More information about client fees. Each room has lockable cupboards and toilet and shower facilities. There is also a day room which can be used by all patients at the ward. For students Training, teaching and guidance As a student you are a member of a multidisciplinary team and will be able to participate in planning and executing the treatment of patients with gynaecological health problems. You will be appointed two mentors and your shifts are to be planned so that you work at the same times as much as possible. The goals for your training period are set during your first week at the department. During this discussion, the dates for your intermediate evaluation report and final evaluation report are set. You will have morning, day and night shifts during this period of practical training. The shifts are not alike and there is much to learn in every shift. We apply what we call silent reporting at the ward. The training period consists of interacting with patients of different age and from different cultural backgrounds. Medical students follow their regular curriculum during their training period at the ward. Medical students have the opportunity to do an internship at the ward and the surgical department.
